Frequently Asked Questions

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a deeply relaxed state of being in which the subconscious mind is very receptive to positive ideas and suggestions. Sometimes referred to as ‘trance’, it is not sleep, and you may have an awareness of things going on around you.

It is a natural state of mind that we go in and out of every day, throughout the day. Think of a time when you were in a meeting and found yourself coming ‘back into the room’ realising that your mind had drifted to thinking about something you needed to get done that day or what you were planning to do that evening. You were just in a trance state.

Being hypnotised is simply a very calming, pleasant experience – in itself very healing for the body, mind and spirit – but also allowing a very narrow focus of concentration.  In this physically relaxed but highly focused state the subconscious mind easily absorbs helpful information, encouraging powerful change within.

Although during hypnosis people tend to have their eyes closed, they can open them whenever they want to, but in most cases they are so deeply relaxed that they would rather not! In fact I have had clients say, on ‘waking’ from hypnosis, they feel as if they have just had a refreshing night’s sleep.

What is hypnotherapy?

Quite simply, hypnotherapy is using the state of hypnosis to make therapeutic change by positive suggestion. In hypnosis, that feeling of deep relaxation means that your mind is like a sponge, absorbing all the helpful ideas, thoughts and suggestions that are placed there by the hypnotherapist.

Will I be under your Power during Hypnosis?

The answer is no, no-one can make you do anything unless you allow them to.

Hypnosis is not putting you to sleep; it’s putting your nervous system in a relaxed state. This means that, even though you remain fully aware of everything going on around you, you are not bothered by things. As a result, you can turn your attention inward

You are in charge. You cannot  & will not be made to do anything against your will.  You cannot be taken into hypnosis against your will. It is your experience, I simply facilitate the experience & help you understanding the significance that comes from scenes.

I’m Not Sure That I Can Be Hypnotised?

Many clients have this concern.

I would say ‘try it’ – you will probably be pleasantly surprised. Each person’s experience of hypnosis is different.  In hypnosis you go into deep relaxation. When you are deeply relaxed we have access to your subconscious or feeling mind. We ask this part of you the reasons behind why you are struggling. Hypnosis is not about being asleep, it is about how suggestible you are. In the session, we test your suggestibility.

The fact is that we are all highly suggestible. Advertisers work with this knowledge all the time to get us to buy things. The fact that we have beliefs in the first place comes from suggestions that we have taken on.

You can be hypnotised. Everyone can. As long as you wish to enter hypnosis, you will. It’s an easy, enjoyable and thoroughly relaxing process.

Do you only do in person sessions?

No, I do online sessions too. Most of my clients are not local to where I live and are located quite far away. Video call convenience facilitates the process as they work perfectly. Depending on your location, we can eventually try to book and meet in person.  If you live “nearby”, I will surely appreciate meeting you in person at my office.

How Can You Hypnotise Someone Over Skype and is it as effective as in person?

It is actually very easy. As long as you have a good wifi connection and a laptop positioned so that I can see you lying down somewhere (lying down is more comfortable) a Skype session is just as powerful.

How will I feel during and after my RTT session

During your session you will feel comfortable and relaxed. Hypnosis is a natural state that you experience in your day to day life so it won’t feel unfamiliar.

It is normal to come out of trance feeling relaxed and perhaps slightly drowsy for the first few minutes. Many clients come out of trance with big smiles on their faces and feelings of excitement or empowerment because they realize that something significant has happened. You may feel a tingling in the back of your head, a sense of reflectiveness or an incredible surge of energy. Everyone is different. Clients often tell me they experience additional insights and revelations in the days and weeks following their RTT session.

Will I be Asleep?

No. You are awake and alert, aware of everything that is happening throughout the session.

Are the Sessions Confidential?

Absolutely. All clients are assured of confidentiality about any disclosed material, in accordance with professional codes of ethics. I do not contact other practitioners or doctors who the client may also be under, without the client’s permission. I destroy inactive files after three years in order to assure clients total confidentiality.

How Many Sessions Do I Need?

Many of our conditions may have existed for years and years so this will determine the number of treatments necessary. Most times one session is all that is needed, but it can take several sessions for deeply ingrained habits or beliefs.

We can talk about our issues for as long as you want, however this won’t necessarily change our experience because we still have a subconscious belief that is driving our behaviour.

In RTT, once we understand the beliefs that drive our behaviour it frees us.

When we change the meaning in the session, it is very healing. You will then work with a hypnosis recording for 21 days which reprograms the subconscious mind with new powerful beliefs. You will also be taught how to have a dialogue with your mind on a daily basis to support this process. So your session actually continues for 3 weeks after your initial session.

Some clients need up to 3 sessions depending on the severity of their subconscious programming and sometimes more.  Roberta will discuss this with you on the phone or in your first session.

Either way, RTT is still a faster approach to healing than spending weeks, months or years in therapy.

Can I Focus On More Than One Issue In My Session?

The mind can only focus on one thing at a time. So unless your issues are related to the same limiting belief, we focus on the issue that is the top priority for you. Some clients come in wanting help with relationship issues and weight for example. In this situation, we would choose one of these to focus on. The client would then come back in 3 weeks time (after they have listened to their recording for 21 days) and we would then focus on the next issue.

What if I uncover something I don’t wish to share with you?

It’s ok to keep details to yourself.  You are in complete control during hypnosis and if you don’t wish to share something, you won’t. The session will still work as long as you can tell me how the unnamed details affect you (as in how they make you feel).

Do you do Regression?

Yes. Regression is an invaluable way to discover the source of an issue. You will not re experience anything, you will simply observe events or experiences you have had in your past. What you see may make you sad or joyful but either way you will feel completely safe as you observe.

Listening To A Recording Every Day Sounds Like Too Much Hard Work

Change requires effort. If you really want to heal, you will invest the time. There are no way around this. The recording is an important part of this work as it rewires the subconsious mind.

Are Results Guaranteed

No professional will guarantee results. However, the fact that most of my clients come to me via referrals is the best indication I can give of how effective RTT is in helping people become free of their problems. Visit my testimonial page to see what previous clients have to say.

I Can’t Afford It

I understand this concern too. Therapy benefits are priceless and I am fair in my pricing.

I guess it comes down to how much you want to invest in yourself and your life. Life is too short to continue lacking in self-confidence. Freedom is priceless. When you stop and consider the consequences of living in frustration tied to the past, therapy becomes a necessity, and not a luxury at all.

How much is it worth to you? This is an interesting question to ponder. The other thing to consider is that weeks or months in therapy is going to cost you thousands. In the long run, RTT is a less expensive approach with greater benefits.

Why Do I Have To Fill In A Pre Session Form?

The pre-session form helps me to understand and prepare for your session. It also means that instead of me taking up valuable time in the session collecting background information, we can get straight into the powerful part of the session.

How can it work in just 1 Session?

Hypnosis allows direct access to the ‘reasons’ we do what we do and react the way we react etc saving you hours even years in talk therapy, searching for the source. The source of our issues are usually based on an age appropriate understandings. When you’re able to observe yourself and these understandings from a non judgemental perspective it’s relatively easy to let them go and move onto rewiring new belief that are more beneficial.

Sometimes it can take more than one session per issue but as a rule most issues only take one session. I don’t want to waste my time or yours which is why I treat this way. Don’t worry, if you wish to see me again we all have many more than one issue to address in life.

* Please note long term depression and anxiety can take several sessions.

How soon can we start our sessions?

I keep my professional practice small and dedicated, which means my appointments are, frequently, booked out in advance.

I’ll do my best to accommodate you at your desired time.

I still need some more information, how can I get it?

Simply fill out the Contact form or schedule a 15 minute session where we can answer all of your questions. I’d love to hear from you.
